Nature of training opportunity

Three month placement based at an open farm with on farm produced food sales and catering facilities.

Training outcome

Students will work alongside the Farm Director, Commercial Manager and the Health and Safety adviser.

Students will engage in:

1.Health and safety projects, including risk assessments of on farm activities and public open days, and advising on day to day issues, (will include off site locations), occupational health and safety, accident investigations and prevention of work related illness;

2. Food related projects including food hygiene at the onsite catering facilities and relating to sale of farm produced products, including proposed food related projects;

3. Health Protection & Development projects including monitoring for non-food related infectious disease, particularly reducing risk of E. coli infection, Legionella and Leptospirosis

4. Community development and education projects.

Specific requirements

Students should provide appropriate waterproof clothing, safety shoes/wellingtons. Other PPE will be provided as necessary.

Additional comments

Students will be able to engage in project work at the farm, but will also be able to work off site at other locations where in-house health and safety advice is given and risk assessments are undertaken.
