Monmouthshire County Council Trainee Environmental Health Officer: Practical training placement at Monmouthshire County Council for academic year 2010-2011.
We are offering a placement for a Student Environmental Health Officer to undertake 12 months of practical training commencing, subject to mutual agreement, in September 2010;
The placement is being offered to enable a BSc Environmental Health student to undertake the practical training period required in support of their degree and development of their Experiential Learning Portfolio;
Whilst the placement will be unpaid, it does offer the opportunity to experience an interesting and varied range of environmental health functions through working with a committed and good-humoured team in a fantastic part of Wales. You would join a team of officers whose roles are split functionally (between commercial and public health) and geographically (across three area offices).

Pembrokeshire County Council is looking to provide two placement only positions for student EHPs for 2010/11 as part of the ELP programme starting summer 2010. A £1,000 bursary and reasonable assistance will be provided for books and day courses where appropriate. CIEH Wales Directorate is offering 2 unpaid student placements, each for a 6 month period, based at the Directorate office in Cwmbran.

Working with the Director CIEH Wales and directorate staff the successful candidate will experience high level strategy and policy development, engaging with a variety of stakeholders including Assembly Members, other organizations and environmental health professional groups. In addition the successful candidate will be assisted to achieve a wide range of interventions to satisfy the requirements of the Experiential Learning Portfolio through the managed and directed use of the Directory of Student Training Opportunities and will be able to attend at conferences and training courses hosted by the CIEH Wales Directorate. There may also be opportunities to engage in research projects, which include projects that would satisfy the dissertation requirements of the B.Sc Environmental Health course. Students wishing to discuss the placement can meet with the Director CIEH Wales and a student currently on placement with CIEH at the CIEH stand at the Milk Round to be held in UWIC on Thursday 4th February 2010.
The placements are unfunded however opportunities will arise for the successful candidate to undertake pieces of remunerated work on an ad hoc basis.
The successful candidate must have access to a car and hold a current passport.
Interviews for both placements will be held on Friday 19th March 2009, location to be advised.
