Environmental health services in local government are under huge pressure to make savings and are subject to stringent cuts. It is important that budget holders and other show have an input into the budgeting process understand the impact of cuts on the service and particularly understand the losses that may follow a service being cuts or reduced. Environmental health costs local government a tiny fraction of its overall budget, less than half of one percent of total spend, but the reach and impact of the service is huge. The first set of infograms diagrammatically represent the impact of six elements of the service, and specifically show how individuals, the NHS and business in Wales, called collectively Wales plc benefit from environmental health interventions. They can be used by the profession in local government to demonstrate the value of the service and the losses that may flow from reducing or failing to deliver elements of the service.
The second set of infograms are pictorial and can be used to demonstrate to members of the public and other stakeholders what environmental health services ado and how they benefit, albeit unconsciously from what the service delivers. They should be used to raise the profile of the service as well as to highlight the way in which it has a positive impact on the lives of individuals and their communities, Wales plc and the individual businesses that constitute it and on the NHS by reducing demand for its services.
For best effect the posters should be printed at least A2 size.
